PANCAKE DAY- 28th February

Yesterday was pancake day and i completely forgot to write a post on it. However i was not so keen on having a pancake for lunch as i was dreaming of having omlette and salad instead. But much to my dismay,the counter staff at the restaurant said they would not make an omlette on a pancake day as all the hotplates were being used to make pancakes...how unfortunate...and so i had a platefull of fries and salad...

And...today is ASH WEDNESDAY!!!

We had the discussion over the dinner table on why it is called Ash Wednesday. And me being considered the most pious(sic) person in my group...i was volleyed with questions...excuse me...give me a break...Christianity originated in the Europe and England is supposed to be a Christian Nation...and the Queen the protector of the Christian Faith...and there were this whole group of Hens(sorry...i call the old English women hens ) around me and none of them knew why it was called ash wednesday.

And then out of no where a collegue of mine said...why can't we pose this question to our hospital Chaplain. And then after a pause she had an afterthought...well if we ask that kind old gentleman of a vicar for an explaination the rest of us would be sitting around the dinner table for the rest of the afternoon...

And so,we gave it our own explaination and then we dispersed...But i am still not at peace...in fact i feel ashamed to call myself a christian when i could not give an explaination to the real meaning and the Origin of the word Ash Wednesday...

If somebody had asked me why the Apple computer was called Apple and why it got the logo...or if somebody had asked me why the Ashes series was called Ashes...i would have again answered it...But with something as simple as Ash wednesday...i was stumped...Can somebody Help me...!!!
