Of Bondas,Bhajjis Vadais and Curry...
Coming from a land of curry...it sure is quite hard for me to digest the fact that i am in a country that has no sense of the word curry...
I have lunch in the Tasty Bite restaurant some days, when I am too lazy to cook my lunch...and then i see on the Menu...Pineapple and Chicken Curry....the name sends a shiver down my spine...excuse me...did i read the sign right....Pineapple and Chicken...come on you must be kidding me...how can it happen...it is a gross violation of culinary rules...and definetly not when i am there standing in the queue with my tummy rumbling like there was a surround sound 5.1 Music System in my anatomy...anyways...though i was put off by the name i go to the lady in charge and it is always the case with me...I dont say a word..and as if by miracle she would say...rice and curry...and i would simply nod my head like a sheep being led to the slaughter house..and only then will i ever realise the enormity of my mistake...of choosing Pineapple and Chicken Curry...
It tastes yucky...trust me folks..if you ever decided to come to UK and if you decide on having a good curry experience then i suggest you make your own curry... But if you still decide to ignore my warning and want to go ahead with this curry...then its your choice...But for the ones who are not brave or adventurous enough to try it...or if you are wise enough to heed to my advice, but if you still would like to know how it tastes then here goes...But then...here is a warning...DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.IT MAY BE DANGEROUS TO YOU OR OTHERS AROUND YOU(you dont want to spoil their new carpet with your yesterday's lunch,do you?)
Well it tastes like a mixture of 3 parts of Kissan Squash and 1 part of Chicken Curry...it is an utter insult to the word curry..and what's worse...you would find huge chunks of Pineapple and small pieces of Chicken...
And then...if you decide to go for Rice Pilau here in UK...I would suggest you cut off your tongue before you eat it...because it would not make any difference anyway. It would still taste the same...TASTELESS...
And this is when i miss the good old moola kadai or the good ol' potti kadai which makes those all so tasty vadai, bondas and bhajjis... though my mom would skin me alive if she sees me eating in those so called 'unhygeinic shops' i still feel i miss them a lot... What's more thrilling than having a kaara mulaga bhajji on a cold rainy day in Chennai.
It is nothing short of heaven trust me...and if you are having second thoughts about ever going to the potti kadai to have a bhajji...then think again mate...there would be a day when you would regret not having it... If you think it would cause you to spill your guts out...then i think you are missing something in life...
Oye...i am talking to you machan...
